Frequently Asked Questions

  • • Vulnerability, openness to learn and play, comfortable working with a large spectrum of “problems” including substance use, complex trauma, suicidal ideation.

    • Comfortable working under the lenses of anti-racism, harm reduction, and gender/sexuality affirming.

  • BURNOUT! We completely understand the financial restraints that come with being a student. However, between working, self-care, school demands, learning how to become a counsellor, and supporting your clients as a counsellor it’s a lot to take. We’ve seen how this impacts our students as well as our clients and this is our way of mitigating that risk.

  • Biweekly group supervision with various therapists on the team (psychologists, counsellors, social workers). This is a time to consult and learn from everyone!

1:1 supervision with your approved supervisor. This is a time to consult, do case reviews, reflect, brainstorm, get and give feedback.

  • When you are ready your case load will be populated from our waitlist. We try our best to accommodate with fit and availability.

  • We do our best to meet people where they are at. We can see clients virtually, a phone call, in the community (ie. their school, the library, etc.), or at one of our Trellis offices across the city.

  • Yes, we require our students to be able to drive to different locations and unfortunately do not pay mileage. We expect our students to balance having boundaries around the amount they are driving with client need.

  • The majority of your hours will be during the typical work week, Monday - Friday 9 am - 5 pm, we do allow students to see SOME clients in the evenings and weekends. We limit these hours as our paid staff do not work weekends and fewer evenings.

  • We require our students to complete 400 hours over approximately 8 months
