The Story of the "Stockings Ladies"
Years ago, a simple conversation sparked what would become a cherished tradition. Natasha's daughter had a friend who worked at one of our group homes for youth. One November, this friend shared with Natasha and Danielle stories about what it was like working with youth in our care. Naturally, curiosity grew: How do these kids come to be in group homes? What is their Christmas like? Do they receive gifts? Do they have a festive meal?
Moved by these questions, Natasha and Danielle felt compelled to act. They decided to bring a little joy to the youth living in our group homes during the holiday season. What started small, creating Christmas stockings for two group homes, quickly gained momentum as more people joined their efforts. Over the years, their kindness and generosity extended beyond group homes to include youth in our Youth Transitioning to Adulthood (YTA) program. When our organization grew and added five more group homes, Natasha and Danielle rallied more volunteers to ensure that every youth received a stocking filled with holiday cheer.
Now, after years of spreading joy, Natasha and Danielle have passed the torch to Chelsea. What began as a small act of kindness has grown into a meaningful tradition that brings joy to many youth in our care during the holidays; a testament to how compassion and community can make a lasting impact.
