Trellis' Trans Day of Remembrance Event

On Trans Day of Remembrance we remember those that we have lost, but we also honour and acknowledge those that are still with us today. This year’s event was special as we heard personal stories from young people and staff from our programs.

You can watch the event below:

Raven (She/They)

"We are sacred and have a right to exist. As a two-spirit woman I exist in defiance of the hate this world bleeds upon me and my relations who identify as two-spirit. We are always here, and we will continue on as we did for millenia."

Sebastian (They/Them)

"I neither wanted to be known as woman or man, but rather just Seb. I also decided that I only get to have a say in how I present just like everyone gets a say in how they present. It's been a long process, but I've made it to the age of 17, and I've been living my true identity for five going on six years.”

Yulia (She/Her) and Destiny (She/Her)

"All the Russian queer people that I know are tremendous people. They're strong and brave...They chose a very difficult, challenging, demanding, but at the end of the day, very rewarding way of life.”

Justin (He/Him)

"Sometimes the biggest brightest shiniest stars burn out the fastest, but the light they gave will never be unseen."

Blake (They/Them)

“I want everybody here to take today as a moment of learning and growing, but look beyond it. The more you better yourself, the more that we can all better the communities around us.”
